Meet James
James Snow is a retired Sergeant from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, where he served for nearly three decades in some of the most challenging and high-stakes roles in law enforcement. Over the course of his career, he worked as a SWAT sniper, narcotics investigator, traffic division supervisor, and leader of the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.). He also served as a POST-certified instructor and adjunct professor, teaching criminal justice and running a POST police academy passing on lessons to the next generation of law enforcement professionals.Beyond his official duties, James earned a reputation as a mentor and steadying influence — someone who could be counted on when the stakes were highest and the margin for error was smallest. Those years of service gave him a deep understanding of resilience, leadership, and the toll that high-stress professions can take on identity and purpose. When a career-ending injury forced James into retirement, he faced the same challenge he now helps others navigate: how to pivot when the mission changes. Drawing on his own experience, he wrote The Pivot: A Guide to Moving Forward When the Mission Changes to offer practical tools, hard-earned wisdom, and a voice of understanding to anyone facing major life transitions. In addition to writing, James is the founder of Snow Woodworks, a custom furniture business specializing in Greene & Greene–inspired designs. His woodworking has been featured on the television series Restored, and his pieces reflect the same precision, craftsmanship, and attention to detail that defined his law enforcement career.James is also a board member of the Cannonball Memorial Run, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the families of fallen law enforcement officers. Whether in the shop, in the classroom, or through his writing, he remains committed to service and to helping others find purpose on the other side of change. He lives in Southern California with his family and continues to build — in wood, in words, and in people.
